The much anticipated rematch between bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and challenger Renan Barao has been postponed.

Dillashaw withdrew from the fight when he fractured his rib. The rematch was expected to headline the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 186 card next month, on April 25 at Bell Centre in Montreal.

The news regarding the postponement of the fight was offered by UFC President Dana White who had an appearance in a Los Angeles podcast last Tuesday.

Mike Roberts, Dillashaw's manager, said that he had injured his rib last week while he was training with the Team Alpha Male camp over in Sacramento.

Initially, Dillashaw thought nothing of it. He flew to Denver and continued to train.

However, an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan showed that the rib had been fractured. He is expected to miss as much as six weeks of action.

Losing the main event of UFC 186 was no big thing though. While losing fights to fighter injuries has previously been a problem in other fight cards, UFC 186 is in no immediate danger.

UFC Officials instead moved the co-main event fight as a headliner. Now, the main event of the card will be the flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson and Kyoji Horiguchi.

The co-main event slot on the other hand will be filled with the return fight of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) legend Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. He is slated to face off against the ever tough Fabio Maldonado.

The title fight between Dillashaw and Barao is one that fans have been waiting for, for quite a while.

Dillashaw dominated Barao in their first meeting in May. Through his performance, he shocked his opponent and the world to gain the belt.

The first rematch fell through, as Barao reportedly fainted in his bathroom during his weight cut.

Now, Dillashaw injured a rib during training.

The rematch is set to be rescheduled to a later date.
