Ericsson Charges Apple Over License Payments

According to Swedish telecoms equipment manufacturer, Apple has been using Ericsson's patented technologies despite the lack of license from the owner.
Ericsson offered Apple to negotiate regarding the issues but they got no response. Now that the offer expired and the company already filed charges in the Germany, UK and the Netherlands. Until now, Apple has no comment about the complaint filed against them. Despite their silence on the case, they also launched a counter appeal to the federal court in California that they did not violate any rights in the patents and they have no responsibilities to the Swedish company.

Ericsson's head of intellectual property, Kasim Alfalahi, released a statement that the technology they developed has been used in different functions and features of modern communication devices. The issue with the Apple Company has existed for two years and they know that the court will solve the issue with fair judgment on the case, he said in a report from BBC News.
Apple is accused of using Ericsson's technology while earning too much profit without having a valid license in them. It includes the company's iPhone and iPads.
In the age of smartphone, Ericsson together with its competitor Nokia, is one of the biggest owners of important technology in smartphone devices. Currently, they already have 37,000 granted patents from different tech companies. It has developed a large business in the field of licensing for smartphone manufacturers. The company has not been developing its own smartphones after the sold half of their share to its former Japanese partner last 2011.
Last 2014, Ericsson sued Samsung because of the same issues on patented technology. Samsung had to pay Ericsson with a total amount of $650 million. Meanwhile, analysts think that if Ericsson wins on this case, Apple needs to pay the amount of $725 million per year in damages.
