Blizzard Entertainment imposed its iron hand of justice after banning at least 100,000 "World of Warcraft" accounts that were using bots.
The figure accounts to about one percent of the overall subscriber base of the highly-successful massive multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG). Currently, "World of Warcraft" records an estimated 7.1 million active users, according to Time.

According to Inquisitr, Blizzard imposed the ban after finding out that the accounts were using bots called Honorbuddy. The bot is designed to play "World of Warcraft" without an actual person doing the controls. It also used to acquire in-game currency and pick up loots automatically and a lifetime membership only costs $28.88.
Bossland, the creator of the Honorbuddy, claims that more than 200,000 "World of Warcraft" accounts are using their program. Despite this massive amount of subscriber, Bossland has already conceded to Blizzard and has finally closed its Honorbuddy Authentication service, according to Kotaku.
Blizzard has been very vigilant on the use of bots on its services. In fact, the company sued Bossland along with another company, Ceiling Fan Software, for providing bot service on "World of Warcraft." Blizzard won the legal battle and was awarded $7 which is to be paid by Ceiling Fan and an injunction against Bossland.
Bots has been a constant headache for "World of Warcraft" gamers especially during PvP matches. The recent victory for Blizzard stands a warning for other bot-providing services to cease their operation.
Aside from Honorbuddy, there are still numerous bot programs that offer the same service and Blizzard hopes to cut all of them down in order to provide a balanced and fair gameplay environment in "World of Warcraft."
Despite a significant victory for Blizzard, many "World of Warcraft" gamers and ex-gamers were not impressed by how slow the company responded to the use of bots in its system. It is a known fact that bots were as old as the "World of Warcraft" game as well.
