Google recently said in a statement that seven Android Wear smartwatches will be receiving the Android Wear 5.1.1 update. The LG Watch Urbane is one of the first to receive the update and now Asus ZenWatch user are reporting that their smartwatches are also receiving the update.

After LG starting rolling out the Android Wear 5.1.1 update to its smartwatches, Asus promised its users that it will be rolling out the same update sometime soon. The company held its promise as users of the Asus ZenWatch are reporting that they are now receiving the update.

Currently Asus ZenWatch still runs on the Android Wear 5.0.2 operating system.

Android Wear 5.1.1 is one of the major updates to be released on smart wearable devices. It updates Wi-Fi connectivity support as well as the all-important always-on apps, according to GSM Arena. The update will also support gesture commands, the option to adjust the smartwatches' font size, pop-up notifications, feature that allows users to send an emoji by drawing it and a usable lock screen.

According to Techno Buffalo, the remaining members of the Android Wear family will be receiving the update soon. Among the Android Wear smartwatches yet to receive the update are the LG G Watch R and the Moto 360.

According to Tech Times, the Android Wear 5.1.1 has a build number LDZ21T. Despite the inclusion of Wi-FI support in the latest update, the Asus ZenWatch cannot profit from this since the smartwatch does not support Wi-Fi connection.

Users who want to update their devices can simply navigate their smartwatches' settings and check for system updates. Another option is by flashing the file manually by downloading the over-the-air file. The latter option is only advised for advance users while casual users have to wait for their device to receive the update instead of doing it manually.

Once the smartwatch successfully updates to Android Wear 5.1.1, the Google Play Services will be upgraded to version 7.3.36 and the Android Wear version will be upgraded to 1.1.1.1910765.
