This week Lenovo unveiled its first PC on a stick, called Ideacentre Stick 300. The portable gadget works with HDMI-compatible devices. Users could carry it to the office, plug it into their flat-screen TV, or simply drop it into their bags during the next day travel.

Lenovo Ideacentre Stick 300 is made to cater the computing needs of families, travelers and business people, and thought that a truly affordable and portable solution would be a significant advantage to users of all sorts, PC World reported.

Engadget reported that the $129 stick changes almost any HDMI-compatible monitor or TV into a functioning Windows-based desktop. Just plug in a 2.4 Ghz wireless mouse and keyboard, and users could update social media, create documents and surf the Web.

PC World explained that this device is changing the conventional TV into a small multi-media device that can be used for editing a work document, video chat and streaming movies. Imagine users could convert their dusty monitor in the bedroom into a DIY home cinema or a Web-enabled homework station.

The Ideacentre Stick 300 packs a 2 GB intel Atom processor and 32GB of storage into an 0.59 inches, upgradeable to Windows 10, starting July 29 from its Window 8.1 OS. It also has a Bluetooth 4.0 and connects to Wi-Fi. Engadge pointed out that the objective of Lenovo in making the Ideacentre Stick 300 is to give those users an enhanced mobility and sense of freedom while packing a serious punch in small gadget. It will be on sale in stores and online starting next month.

On the other hand, the tech giant isn't the first to launch a device like the Ideacentre 300, In January, Intel debuted its own Desktop on a stick - the Intel Compute Stick - which is priced at $150, where users get the same 2GB memory, 32 GB eMMC Flash Storage and Intel Atom processor, discussed in PC World.

The verdict, the Ideacentre Stick 300 could be useful for adding computing capabilities, streaming web video on TV; however, it won't be functional for daily computing. The good thing about the device is it helps Lenovo's computer on stick version into "impulse-purchase market," although users want more power and may have to wait for the release of Core M Compute Stick that is coming in winter, with larger RAM and storage.
