Gennady Golovkin's name suddenly emerged as one of Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s possible opponents for his supposedly final fight on September. This is after the pound-for-pound champion mentioned GGG's name in a video interview saying that he is "too smart" for the Kazakh brawler.
In a video shown at SB Nation's Bad Left Hook, Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) said that even if they fought at his weight (welterweight or light middleweight), the current WBA (Super) and IBO middleweight champion would be no match for him because he is too smart to be outpointed by Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs).

"You got guys out there that can punch hard with both hands, they go to the body good, but my best attribute is I'm very, very smart," Mayweather told his interviewer.
The unbeaten American then said that Golovkin is a "solid puncher" but he is currently one-dimensional and has no "special effects." Mayweather seemed to be referring to the technical aspects of boxing, which the Kazakh may have not yet mastered at the moment.
In the middle of last month, Golovkin said that he would "crush" Mayweather if ever they would see each other in the ring, via Bleacher Report. This may have prompted the 38-year-old billionaire, who was recently named the highest-paid athlete by Forbes, to declare such comments.
In a separate video at Fansided, the pay-per-view king again called out Golovkin with the same remarks that the 33-year-old fighter cannot defeat him.
The interviewer asked that after his dominating victory against Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, would he consider fighting at 160 or 168. Mayweather's answer was about Golovkin, however.
"I finally had the chance to see the guy fight... what's the guy?" Mayweather asked, in which the reporter quickly replied "Gennady Golovkin". A brief pause ensued and then Money said "congratulations for everything that he has done, but even at my weight he can't beat me," while shaking his head.
"I won't knock him out, but he can't beat me," he added.
While these words may sound arrogant to some, it appears that "The Best Ever" is telling the truth. With Mayweather's clever boxing style, the hard-hitting Golovkin still has a lot to learn and a lot of experience to gain fighting elite-level boxers before he can successfully taint the record of the undefeated fighter.
