It seems to be a good year so far for world no. 1 Novak Djokovic. He won the Australian Open, bagged 4 out of 4 Masters titles, and was a finalist at the French Open. On Sunday, he added another trophy to his shelf - a familiar one and the third of its kind - the Wimbledon 2015 crown, his second grand slam for 2015 and ninth overall.

Djokovic defeated seven-time champion Roger Federer in the Finals with a score of 7-6 (7-1) 6-7 (10-12) 6-4 6-3, denying the Swiss from winning his eighth Wimbledon crown. It wasn't an easy battle indeed for either player who fought for almost three hours that included a rain delay and produced high-caliber world-class tennis.

In the first set, Federer took an early lead, breaking Djokovic on the sixth game. But the Serb soon got the break back after a poor first serve performance from his opponent. The set ended in a tiebreak that went to Djokovic after a series of errors from the Swiss.

The second set took a different turn with Federer fighting for every point including saving seven set points to take the tiebreak, but it was all Djokovic in the next two sets. The defending champion answered Federer's serve with aggressive returns and smacked winners crosscourt to take the Championships and put his name above Ivan Lendl, Jimmy Connors and Andre Agassi in the list of major winners.

Djokovic, however, did not downplay Federer who managed to score more winners and aces than what his numbers show.

"I have to say it's a big challenge playing against Roger," Djokovic told BBC. "A lot of players of my generation have looked up to him and followed his lead. He makes you push your limits, work hard and win every single point."

The next major tournament for both players is the US Open with Djokovic gunning for his 10th grand slam title. As for the Fed, another major title has slipped away from his grasp, but don't count the 33-year-old out just yet despite talks on retirement. In the Open Era, Federer leads the grand slam race with 17 titles and fortunately for all his fans, it doesn't end there.

"For me a finalist's trophy is not the same," he said. "I am still very hungry and motivated and a match like this is very helpful."
