Epic war-romance film "Lady of the Dynasty" opened in cinemas on July 30, but the controversial scene of lead actress Fan Bingbing was ultimately cut out. A publicity representative of the movie confirmed that Fan and Leon Lai's sex scene on a horse was omitted from the public screening.
"The clothes ripping scene remains but the scenes after were all deleted," Asia Pop News quoted the representative.

In the scene, Lai's character Tang dynasty Emperor Xuanzong tore off the clothes of Fan's character Yang Guifei and the couple engaged in an intimate encounter. Netizens feasted on the screenshots of the movie trailer and some suggested the possibility of censoring the part for its "bad influence" on the youth.
Days prior the official release, many cinemas have reportedly requested the production company to delete the scene in question. However, Fan's agency allegedly refuted the claim and called the rumor "ridiculous." In a report by Sporela, Fan supposedly clarified that Lady of the Dynasty "passed" the censorship board's close examination and that the scene was not cut. But on July 27, a number of theaters were issued with notification to cancel the movie's screening due to "technical issues."
In December 2014, Fan's TV series "The Empress of China" lost its airtime on the mainland due to "technical reasons." According to reports, the many revealing outfits of women in the show resulted in the suspension. A week later, it returned but not without changes. One notable observation was the close-up shots that hid the actresses' "squeezed breasts." When it aired in Singapore in April 2015, the series again faced censorship, this time through the cover-up of cleavages using digital fabric.
"I have to respect Mainland China censorship standards. Every country has its own censorship rules," actress and producer Fan stated during the show's press conference in Hong Kong.
Lady of the Dynasty took five years to complete, from its official announcement in 2009 to its actual filming that began in 2013. The production also encountered several setbacks, including a British production company's withdrawal of investment, the original cast's exit, and South Korean director Kwak Jae-yong's resignation.
