She was referring to the awards ceremony host’s interview to the New York Times in which she talked about the much-discussed Nicki Minaj-Taylor Swift Twitter exchange regarding this year’s nominees, Marie Claire reported.

The “Party in the USA” hitmaker was apparently caught off-guard by Minaj’s comments. She said that they all belonged to the same industry and did interviews. “We all know how they manipulate. Nicki, congratulations,” she said, before plugging the show.

Nicki, meanwhile, standing on one side of the stage continued to speak under her breath and clearly did not buy the argument

The controversy started when Minaj reacted on not being nominated for MTV’s coveted video of the year award. She said in July that everyone who was white and blonde was getting nominated, adding that the cultural contributions of black women are often overlooked, raising the specter of racism in the music industry.

It started off a Twitter debate that drew thousands of people — including Taylor Swift. Meanwhile, after throwing shade at Cyrus, Minaj took to Twitter.

There have been reactions on Twitter from fans of both the singers. Agung Krishna said that the rapper was seeking for attention, while Pedro said that Minaj was fake, Krystal Jung said that flop Miley is better. Meanwhile, Cesar said: “Queen of rap you deserved that award.” One fan went on to say:

The rapper also thanked Swift on Twitter for “being epic.”
