Sony continues to roll-out Android KitKat updates to Xperia handsets and tablets.

The company supports both Android 4.4.4 and Android 4.4.2 updates to select models around the world based on the software support pages.

Currently, Sony supports Android 4.4.4 KitKat on the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact. Users of these devices can get the newest Android 4.4.4 KitKat version through the Update Center app or the respective Sony PC suite installed on a MAC or Windows computer.

When asked about the company's Android L plans, Sony said that it is delighted by the reaction to the Android L preview but still can't share its roadmap specifics. A Sony spokesperson said the company will continue to bring unique software with the newest Android experience to many Xperia users, urging consumers to stay tuned.

The Sony Xperia Z3 could launch with Android L since the Xperia Z2 was shipped with Android 4.4.2, the newest version that's been available for only several months. The Xperia Z3 will be unveiled at the IFA in September so it might be too early for Android L.

The Xperia Z2 could also get the Android L upgrade and it's notable that Sony brought the last update to its handset within just a week of launch.

Sony appears to be committed to delivering timely upgrades. The Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact are also expected to receive Android L within the first months of its launch.

Xperia Z may also get the upgrade, too but since it's close to being 18 months old, this could be the last major upgrade it will receive.

The Xperia Z2 Tablet may have to wait as Sony didn't deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to the Xperia Tablet Z for about seven months after the software's release. The Tablet Z may also receive the upgrade as well, but like the Xperia Z, it could also be its last major upgrade.
