In a statement obtained by Fortune, Verily chief scientific officer Vik Bajaj said, "How can we detect disease earlier, understand it better, and intervene in the course of the disease more precisely? We will understand disease at the individual level. Not what makes someone sick, but what makes you sick."

Verily, previously known as Google Life Sciences, started as a moonshot project of the highly secretive Google X team, according to Engadget. The team was known to have been working with unique projects like space elevators and hover boards.

Verily has already worked on transformative products. One of which is a smart contact lens with an integrated glucose sensor which have practical applications for patients with diabetes. Google, along with Novartis, continue to develop this product.

Verily has managed to put together a team of experts with specializations in engineering, chemistry even behavioral science and philosophy. The aim is to connect this experts together and using Google's massive data storage and large scale computing power could develop new technologies and launch studies that will have practical applications on human health.

Verily is also planning to go beyond health-focused hardware. The company plans to delve into bio-molecular nanotechnology and surgical robotics. The company is also working on algorithms that could help analyze complex biological information.

Through these studies and researches, Verily is hoping that it could one day develop a pattern that will help in detecting diseases during its earliest phase. Verily is also hoping to create a technology that could accurately diagnose disease and then choose the best treatment.
