Since the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus models appeared in stores, the Internet has been abuzz about the iPhone 7. There are a lot of leaks and rumors from supply chain sources and insiders, but Apple still remains mum about the next-gen iPhone's new features.

It is predicted that the upcoming iPhone 7 will be introduced in the fall. There are no official invites yet but Apple's next event is said to be in March 2016 and  the focus is on the Apple Watch's successor. It is possible that a new iPhone will be out early next year but it could just be the speculated iPhone 6C.

Based on Apple's past iPhone updates, significant design changes were made during even-numbered years while tech upgrades were done in odd-numbered ones.

According to reports, it is likely that 2016 will bring a totally redesigned iPhone 7. It is said that Apple is testing different iPhone 7 prototypes with various features. Speculations claim that the iPhone 7 will be water-resistant and will do away with the home button. Other predictions include a pressure-sensitive 3D Touch screen and hands-free, always-on Siri. Rumor has it that the iPhone 7 will have a sapphire display and OLED technology.

The iPhone 7 is said to feature dual rear cameras which offer optical zoom instead of the inferior digital zoom. A USB Type-C port is also expected to replace the 3.5 mm headphone jack, much to the dismay of customers. There are talks about wireless charging, but details about it are still scarce.

According to exclusive A10 chip driver TSMC, the iPhone 7 will highlight an integrating fan out packaging which could stack chips on top of each other to the motherboard directly. This could allow for a thinner iPhone as it reduces vertical board height.
