Microsoft's machine learning software Xiaoice (Little Bing) became the first artificial intelligence robot to host a segment on live TV on Tuesday.

A Chinese live program Morning News introduced Xiaoice (Little Bing) as a trainee anchor to take in charge of the daily weather report on Tuesday Dec. 29. Xiaoice calls upon smart cloud technologies and big data to learn about and interpret weather readings and then deliver current reports with its unique artificial intelligent style of emotional comments. It is more human-like than any other system of its kind with a score of 4.32 out of 5 in linguistic naturalness tests. Average humans have an average score of 4.76.
Xiaoice started its life as an advanced personal assistant for messaging apps Line and WeChat as well as a social networking service Weibo. It communicate with Chinese residents on the above mentioned social networks. It appeared as a young character Rinna on Line who replies to the questions of users with a human-like understanding and an abundance of emoji. Over 250,000 fans on messaging service Line are already interacting with the chatbot.
According to Microsoft, Xiaoice proves that AI concepts can be made available to everyone than serve in sci-tech concepts. Its creators envision it playing an important role in working alongside presenters to allow it to bring more bliss to human beings.
Microsoft has worked with China's SMG TV News Center for four months to develop Xiaoice for its new gig as a weather reporter. The company has also expanded the use of Xiaoice chatbot to Japan and will introduce it to other parts of the world, including U.S. and in the future.
