China's national team is once more becoming the basketball super power of Asia. But head coach Gong Luming is not satisfied, he is looking for ways to improve the team.
In the 2007 FIBA Asia tournament, China's national team was not able to get out of the first round, losing all three games to Jordan, Philippines and Iran.

China tasted a shocking quarterfinal departure at the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship that was held in Manila, Philippines after losing to the Chinese-Taipei team. The team also missed out on the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, losing to Korea and Iran in the first round of the tournament.
Despite the previous struggles the team has endured, China was able to show the world that they can bounce back and be supreme and mighty once again.
China is the reigning FIBA Asia Championship conquerors, winning the event without tasting a defeat. By overpowering the Philippine squad in the tournament in Changsa-Hunan in 2015, the national team also earned the berth to automatically qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Gong, 58, is a former basketball player himself, who competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Despite the progress of the Chinese team, he is looking for ways to make the squad better and has indicated that there are going to be some changes to China's game on both ends of the court. He wants his players to be ready to adapt to new tactics.
"A team is certainly to be constantly updated," he said. "Every year it should be. There are new developments, changed tactics, so we need the help of the (CBA) league to learn new styles of play, which is inevitable when it comes to developing as a team."
China's basketball supremacy may have been put in questions before, but with coach Gong, the team remains the giant of Asia and have plenty of youngsters to pin their hopes on for the future.
