Tennis News: British Johanna Konta Beats China's Zheng Saisai, Moves to the Third Round of Australian Open

(Photo : Reuters) Zheng was one of five Chinese women to reach the second round of the Grand Slam competition.

Zheng Saisai, China's highest ranked tennis player, bowed to British number one Johanna Konta in the second round of the 2016 Australian Open on Thursday in Melbourne.

Konta, who currently ranks as world No. 47, outclassed the No. 83 Zheng with an impressive straight sets 6-2, 6-3 win to advance to the next level of the prestigious tennis tournament, claiming the victory in an hour and 22 minutes.

According to BBC, it was the second time the two players have met, with the Briton having won in the French Open qualifying two years ago.

The 24-year-old Sydney-born Briton is coming off a sensational upset victory against the former world No.1 and current No. 10 Venus Williams on Tuesday.

Konta will next face world No. 66 Czech Denisa Allertova, who defeated tournament's 30th seed and No. 32 Sabine Lisicki of Germany for the fourth round berth.

Konta started tennis at the young age of eight. She plays right handed (double handed backhand) and likes to play in the clay surface. She reached her career high singles ranking as world No. 46 on October 19, 2015 one place higher from her current ranking today.

The Great Britain's top player is currently being coached by Esteban Carril and Jose Manuel Garcia.

On the other hand, Zheng, 21, a native of Shaanxi, started tennis at the early age of eight. She is currently being coached by Alan Ma.

The Chinese qualifier reached her career high singles ranking as world No. 61 on May 11, 2015 and world No. 37 in the doubles ranking on January 6, 2014. Zheng plays right handed (double handed backhand) and loves to play in the hard surface.
