The Die Adler (Eintracht Frankfurt club's nickname) attacking midfielder has netted 111 goals for the side since he joined from Hamburg in 2004 and hopes to add many more during the last 18 months remaining in his current deal with the German football outfit.
In the German tabloid Bild, the professional football player confirmed that he rejected the chance to earn a total of $8 million in China, where he hinted that a top-five Chinese outfit tried to entice him with a two-year contract.
"It's true, there was an offer," he said. "And I have chatted to [Frankfurt CEO Heribert] Bruchhagen and the coach [Armin Veh], but after about one minute it was off the table."
Meier, who was the 2014-15 Bundesliga season's top scorer, has scored 10 league goals in 14 games this season.
The Frankfurt, Hesse-based outfit's captain has touched double figures three times since the team's return to the Bundesliga in the 2012-13 season.
Meier started his football career with FC St. Pauli in 2002. He transferred to Hamburger SV in 2003 with a three-year deal. He signed for the Eintracht Frankfurt on July 2004 and stayed with club until now.
Meier will not be the first high profile international footballer to turn down such a fortune for the generous offer the Chinese football clubs are putting in the table.
In previous events, Lucas Lima of Santos, Eder of Sampdoria, Alexandre Pato, Elias and Cassio of the 2015 Brazilian champions Corinthians, have all rejected prodigious offers from well-heeled Asian sides.
