Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update Officially Rolled Out for Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+

(Photo : Getty Images) Samsung has started rolling out the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update to its devices.

Samsung started rolling out the Android Marshmallow update for the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+ international editions on Feb. 15 for device owners in South Korea.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update comes with new features such as the Google Now on Tap, which gives better and more accurate info to users, and the Doze Mode, which extends the device's battery performance on standby. It also brings over 200 new emojis, a wider edge panel of 260 pixels to 550 pixels, Apps edge, which allows users to add ten apps, and People edge panels, which show contact names below user photos. Other new features include a Tasks edge panel, Quick tools panel, revamped app permissions, Android Pay, a new Silent mode and Chrome feature that enhances user Web experience.

The tech giant reported that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is available only for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, but other devices compatible with Marshmallow will also receive the latest firmware update. So far, Samsung is yet to announce the Android 6.0 release schedule for its other devices.

The South Korean tech company has released the Android 6.0 update for the unlocked editions of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge phones, while carriers such as Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile still wait to get the update.

A recent roadmap leak revealed that Samsung will release the Android 6.0 update for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 in February. According to the leak, the firmware will be out for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in February and will continue to roll out until March. The Galay Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy S5 are expected to receive the Android 6.0 update between March and April.
