Oliver Kaltner, chief executive offier of Leica Camera said, "The strategic alliance between Huawei and Leica Camera demonstrates the desire of two rapidly growing and globally active brands to continuously push the envelope of the technologically possible."

"In addition to innovative strength and premium standards, our two companies are united by the commitment to uncompromising quality." Kaltner added.

The partnership will also give Leica Camera the opportunity to expand its business into the field of mobile devices and reach new target groups.

Founded in 1849, Leica is known for developing high-quality lightweight camera technologies, photographic lenses and other optical equipment for over a century. In 2015, Japanese tech giant Panasonic launched its Lumix CM1 smartphone with Leica optics in the U.S. market.

Last month, Panasonic unveiled its Lumix CM10 connected camera without the features of a smartphone. This device still runs on the Android operating system and comes with similar design as the original CM1 handset.

This year, Huawei and Apple Inc. could begin adopting dual-camera technology as well, according to a recent research report by Morgan Stanley. Dual-camera technology is expected to improve image resolution quality, among others, and will enable developers to design new apps, said Morgan Stanley Analyst Jasmine Lu.

The latest device to feature dual rear cameras is LG's latest G5 smartphone unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 event in Barcelona.
