The Windows 10 Mobile OTA update was expected to be rolled out in February 2016. While there is still no word on the actual release date, the first Lumia handsets which will receive the upgrade have been revealed.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 Xl along with the lower-end models Lumia 550 and Lumia 650 are the only phones which come preloaded with the Windows 10 Mobile OS. Other Lumia handsets still run on the Windows Phone 8.1 OS.

Windows Phone owners are getting frustrated over the long lag between the news updates and its availability.

A Microsoft spokesperson has explained that "For existing 8.1 devices, Win10 update is going to be only SW update, but in order to a fix few issues, there will be FW updates for some devices which are still based on 8.1 SW before they can receive Win10 update. Right now we have not communicated what 8.1 devices will get updated and when but please have the latest FW on all your 8.1 in preparation of win 10."

Lumia users, who registered for the Windows Insider program, can already run the Windows 10 Mobile preview editions.

Microsoft will reportedly release the Windows 10 Mobile OTA upgrade for all Lumia devices eligible for the update soon. To get the update, Lumia handsets need to run on Windows Phone 8.1 with build no. 8.10.14219.341 along with the Lumia Denim software.

Lumia devices will receive the update at different times. Reports indicate that the first set of Lumia smartphones which will receive the update are: The Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, 1 GB RAM model of Lumia 634, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930.

Microsoft has not issued an official statement regarding the availability of the highly anticipated software upgrade despite delaying its release since December last year.
