NBA Recap: Los Angeles Lakers Down Orlando Magic for Second Straight Victory

The Los Angeles Lakers got the better of the visiting Orlando Magic with a 107-98 victory at the Staples Center on Tuesday night.

Rookie D'Angelo Russell, the 2015 NBA draft 2nd overall pick, finished the game with a game-high 27 points, while sophomore guard Jordan Clarkson contributed with 24 points to lead the Lakers to their second back-to-back win since January 3.

Starting forward Julius Randle had a double-double game. He matched his career high with 23 points and had 11 boards for the Lakers', who stunned the league's defending champion Golden State Warriors with a 112-95 triumph on Sunday.

"It was important," Randle, who shot 9 for 16 from the field in 30:22 minutes of playing, said. "We've got to show that we've grown. We're not just satisfied with one game, but we're able to come back the next game and play that well again."

With the win, the Lakers have improved to 14-51 - with 9-21 at home and 5-30 on road. They have won three of the last ten games they have played, but are still in the bottom last of the Western Conference team standings.

Los Angeles was trailing at the end of the first half with Orlando leading by six points 51-45. In the third period of the match, the Lakers made a 39-26 run and capped the quarter with 84-77 lead, going into the final period of the game.

In the final twelve minutes of the match, the Magic team was held to just 21 points, while the Lakers, who played without Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, managed to produce 23 points in the final period to seal the win.

The victors dominated the shaded area scoring 56 points of their total game output compared to the 44 points the Magic made. The Lakers also won the battle for rebounds, grabbing 45 boards with Orlando having just 35 rebounds during the game.

Victor Oladipo had 26 points and Evan Fournier scored 23 for the Magic, who have lost three consecutive games.
