Tom Cruise is set to play the lead protagonist in the upcoming 'The Mummy' reboot. He is currently filming in England and was captured in character together with co-star Annabelle Wallis after unofficial photographs were leaked from the set.
The unofficial photographs from the filming set of Universal's 'The Mummy' reboot were leaked online. The images featured the first look at Tom Cruise as the lead protagonist Tyler Colt, a Navy Seal officer sent to the Iraqi desert on a mission from which he uncovers the iconic titular monster.

Principal photography has commenced in Oxford England under director Alex Kurtzman. Wallis stars alongside Cruise in a yet unnamed role. It was suggested in previous reports that her character would be an archaeologist. The English actress currently stars in the BBC television series 'Peaky Blinders' and previously worked in other series including 'The Tudors' and 'Pan Am.'
According to Game Spot, Sofia Boutella has been cast as the villainous titular monster. The 34-year old Algerian actress, dancer and musician is best known for her role in Matthew Vaughn's 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' as Gazelle, an antagonist with bladed prosthetic legs.
Boutella's female mummy would be an interesting new twist to the classic franchise that released its first full-feature film in 1932. Boris Karloff played the mummy Imhotep in the classic film and the character was later revived on the big-screen by Arnold Vosloo in Stephen Sommer's 1999 release.
According to Techno Buffalo, 'The Mummy' is intended as one of the first installments in Universal's planned monster universe that would seek to revive classic horror films into one collective franchise. Other key monster films that are expected to be rebooted include 'The Invisible Man,' 'Wolfman,' and 'Frankenstein'.
'The Mummy' reboot is an upcoming adventure-horror film starring Tom Cruise as the main protagonist. It is directed by Alex Kurtzman and written for the big screen by Jon Spaihts. It is scheduled to hit theaters on June 9, 2017.
