Scalpers are taking advantage of the high demand for entrance tickets to the grand opening of the Shanghai Disneyland on June 16, with some charging customers outrageous prices.

Since tickets to the grand opening sold out in just five minutes on March 28, many are now turning to scalpers, who are selling passes for more than 1,000 yuan. Some tickets are reportedly as high as 3,899 yuan.

One Shanghai-based scalper, who claimed to have secured 10 tickets with his wife from Alitrip, one of Disney's authorized ticket-selling outlets, is putting his grand opening day passes on the market for 999 yuan, according to China Daily. Another scalper on Taobao is selling June 16 to 30 tickets for 580 yuan.

Scalpers are marketing their tickets on Taobao, one of Alibaba's online selling platform, and Sina Weibo, a micro-blogging site.

Meanwhile, the management of Shanghai Disneyland has cautioned visitors that tickets should only be acquired from authorized ticketing outlets including its official website, through telephone reservations, and legit partners such as Alitrip, Shanghai Disney Resort World Wechat, and other select travel partners.

"We take various measures to prevent ticket scalping and the sale of fraudulent tickets... Guests should only purchase tickets from authorized official channels," the Shanghai Disney Resort said.

The resort has implemented some ways to prevent ticket scalping. For instance, visitors are only allowed to buy a maximum of five tickets by providing an ID number. Upon entry to the park, visitors will be asked to present their ticket confirmation and identification document used to buy the passes.

Shanghai Disneyland Resort's ticket prices ranged between 499 yuan ($77) during peak season and 370 yuan ($57) for regular periods. The massive theme park promises visitors a classic Disney experience with a tinge of Chinese culture.
