The famous green ogre will be brought to real life through the lyrics of Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire, music by Jeanine Tesori and choreography by Chris Bailey.
It will be directed by Stephen Sposito, the associate director of the revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." The show will debut at the Venetian Theater in Macao.
"Shrek the Musical" first debuted on Broadway back in 2008. It tells the story of an ogre called Shrek, who goes on his way to rescue a princess.
According to the official announcement, "Shrek the Musical" is expected to encourage more tourists to the country, as it will offer several choices to animation enthusiasts and family travelers.
"We are so excited to bring this musical to Macau, as part of our entertainment strategy to bring international shows to the region," the organizer said.
"It reaffirms our commitment to offer entertainment for all ages and this show will appeal to both adults and children alike," added the global chief marketing officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Sands China Ltd., Dave Horton.
