'John Wick 2' leading man Keanu Reeves is set to take on deadly international killers in Rome as revealed by the upcoming sequel's recently released official synopsis. Common, who plays a rival hitman, revealed more details about his antagonistic character.

According to News Ledge, Reeves said that the new film in the action-thriller series will open the storyline for the Continental world.

"So there's definitely that influence of the other world, the Continental world, the look, the feel, what it is about the movie, what made people like it; is definitely being paid attention to and the world opens up in this chapter," Reeves said in a previous interview.

In the original 2014 film, Reeves was introduced as a former retired assassin who was forced to return to a life of killing following the theft of his car and the brutal murder of his dog, which was a last gift from his dying wife. He also finds that he is being pursued by a former associate and friend after a crime boss orders him killed.

The new plot synopsis for 'John Wick 2' revealed that Reeves' titular character will travel to Rome and "squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers." It seems that the new film will expound more on the John Wick mythos but feature an entirely different story.

Reeves is joined by Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Bridget Moynahan, Peter Stormare, Ruby Rose and Lonnie Rashid Lynn, otherwise known as Common. According to MovieWeb, Common is set to portray a primary villain, specifically the head of security for a female crime boss.

According to Collider, Common insisted that his character was more than just a stereotypical movie villain. The 44-year old hip-hop recording artist and actor said, "My character is less a villain than he is a rival to John Wick. They're cut from the same cloth. They're the same type of warriors. But it's time for battle, at a certain point. It's a lot of fun to get to be in this movie. We shot in some great places. I just love that world and I'm excited to see what comes from it."

'John Wick 2,' officially titled 'John Wick: Chapter 2,' is an upcoming action-thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and penned for the big screen by Derek Kolstad. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 10, 2017.
