'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' actor Mads Mikkelsen has revealed that he will be playing Jyn Erso's father, but he also accidentally let slip that the upcoming 'Star Wars' spin-off film would feature classic characters from the original franchise.

The 50-year old Danish actor unintentionally divulged his new character. He said, "I read the script and it was very beautiful and Felicity's [Jones] playing Jyn, a young and very strong woman. I play her father... And that was too much, I'm sorry."

In another interview, Mikkelsen also revealed that some classic characters from the main 'Star Wars' franchise will be making appearances in 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.' Mikkelsen was asked whether Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker or Carrie Fisher's Leia Organa would appear in the spinoff film. He replied, "Some of them - but I would reveal too much. There are iconic characters in our film and also characters you have never heard of. It's a mix."

Mikkelsen admitted that he only watched previous 'Star Wars' films after wrapping up principal photography for 'Rogue One.' "When I was a kid you were in that universe or you were into Bruce Lee. And I was Bruce Lee... I filmed the whole thing and then I watched it. It's nice sometimes when you don't have any references. This is a script and we're making a film. The flavour of the film has to be in the script - I'm not just going to take it because of the franchise," he said.

The 'Hannibal' actor added that he had to ask for help from his co-actors whenever there were some references in the script that he was not familiar with.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that the iconic 'Star Wars' character who would possibly make an appearance in the new film would be Darth Vader. Since the announcement of 'Rogue One,' fans of the franchise have hoped to catch the return of the high ranking Jedi Knight-turned-powerful Sith Lord.

'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film intended as the first in a planned anthology of films set in the 'Star Wars' universe. It is directed by Gareth Edwards and written for the big screen by Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta. It is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016.
