Many tech analysts agree that Periscope's rise as the leader in the live video streaming industry is due to the app's ease of use rather than its lineup of features. In order to lure users who demand more sophisticated features, the Twitter-owned broadcasting app has rolled out an update to support video archiving, search functions, and full integration with DJI drones.

The most noticeable of all these new features is the new search function. With this new function, users can now easily sort broadcasts and broadcasters in various ways. Users can do this through hashtags, Twitter suggested categories, or simple tags such as "aerial footage" or "first-time broadcasters."
Periscope has started to organize broadcasts and broadcasters into different categories like music, travel, food, and art. By using the search bar, as well as employing hashtags in the search function, users can easily find new contents that will cater to their interests.
Aside from adding the search feature, Periscope is also overhauling the way it handles live streams. Previously, footages were deleted after the first 24 hours of delivery. Now, broadcasters have the option to have their footages retained for a specific length of time.
Periscope users who use the #save hashtag on the description of their broadcasts will trigger a recording which will remain available on their profiles and tweets to which these broadcast are linked. Broadcasters can still opt to delete their live stream sessions or set these recordings to disappear after a period of time.
Periscope co-founder Kayvon Beykpour told The Verge that "We have moved past that world where people think about live with that same amount of stress in a short amount of time. We're frankly shocked the world evolved that quickly - but that's great."
Regarding its integration with DJI drones, Periscope said that recent DJI Phantom models can now broadcast on the app. Users can also control the cameras installed on the drone through their smartphones.
