'Civilization VI,; the sixth iteration in the highly popular 'Civilization' video game series has been recently unveiled. As the newest addition to the series, 'Civilization VI' will introduce new gameplay elements especially in how players perceive the role of cities and how it affects culture, industry, and science.

'Civilization VI' was created by the same team behind 'Gods and Kings' and 'Brave New World,' both are major expansions for 'Civilization V.' According to the lead designers of the new game, 'Civilization VI' will mark the first major change in terms of city placement, invasion, growth, and territory expansion. The team revealed that they were able to achieve this drastic gameplay shift by "unstacking" cities.

What the team means is that instead of piling buildings, palaces, wonders, and garrison troops all in a single hexagonal tile, 'Civilization VI# will spread all these resources into several districts on multiple tiles.

This means that each city or metropolis will be more specialized compared to those of earlier franchises where they act as a sort of central hub for all resources. By integrating this new style of gameplay, players can take advantage of the multiple types of terrains, different resources, and cover more land area.

In a statement, game director Ed Beech said, "We want to stop players from falling into patterns. We want players to build their empires differently every time."

The introduction of this "unstacked cities" gameplay mechanics will also trigger a different approach when it comes to war strategy. The developers have noted that instead of focusing the attack on the main cities, which most of the time are heavily fortified, players can instead divert small attacks on less fortified districts that pump out valuable resources, therefore disrupting the production of the main city.

'Civilization VI' was developed by Firaxis Studios and will be published by 2K Games. The game will be released on Oct. 21.
