While high-end virtual reality headsets like the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift are making headways in the tech community, the Samsung Gear VR is steadily raking in users and recently surpassed the one million mark. Thanks to its low price and the fact that it only requires a smartphone, Gear VR was able to sell more than one million units in just six months after the first consumer grade product was released.

In a statement, Oculus head of mobile Max Cohen said, "Oculus' mission is to help people experience anything, anywhere. The secret is it can't just be slightly better than other experiences that you've had. It has to be even better."
The Gear VR headset is a collaboration between South Korean tech giant Samsung and the Facebook-own entity Oculus, the latter being the same company behind the high-end virtual reality headset Oculus Rift.
Oculus is hoping that breaching the one million user mark will help persuade developers to create more content for the still fledgling platform. Although virtual reality poses a lucrative market for content developers, the platform has not yet crept into the mainstream consciousness to encourage developers to create new content.
Aside from boosting its user base, Oculus is also keen to work on app discovery. As of this writing, there are about 250 apps for the Gear VR. However, the main problem lies in finding new content. Due to the lack of app discovery features, Oculus is set to launch an overhauled version of the Oculus Home design next month.
Oculus hopes that this new design will make it much easier for users to search and download new content. One of the new addition is the "What's New" section which, as the name suggests, will highlight all new contents that are being uploaded on the platform. Oculus added that they are also working on adding social elements into the platform so that friends can see what people in their circle are watching or doing.
