Instagram Stirs Tech Community After Drastic Logo Change

Instagram

(Photo : YouTube) Instagram has attracted criticisms from some of its users for changing its logo.

Popular photo sharing app Instagram has rolled out a new update that introduced a major overhaul of its design. However, what shocked the tech community is Instagram's decision to change its logo from the ubiquitous retro brown and cream combination to a new swirl of colors with a white camera outline.

Instagram stated that the simplified shape of the camera conveys versatility while the color scheme picked its design cues from the rainbow stripe, which appears on the original logo.

In a statement, Instagram said, "We've been inspired by all the ways the community has grown and changed, and we wanted to create something that reflects how vibrant and diverse storytelling on Instagram has become."

While some users embraced the redesigned changes made by Instagram without a fuss, a significant portion of users were not happy after seeing the changes when they updated their apps. Some users pointed out that the new logo lacks the character which the previous once possess.

While many were not happy about the changes in the logo of Instagram, this is the first time the company has tweaked its logo. Some critics were quick to point out that while tech giants like Facebook and Google have made changes to their respective logos in the past, the changes were not as drastic as Instagram's.

Instagram was launched in October 2010. The app became so popular that social networking giant Facebook offered the company approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. Instagram was acquired by Facebook in April 2012.

Five years after its initial launch, Instagram now has a global community of more than 400 million users. These include A-list celebrities and high-profile individuals. The app is available in 25 languages and supports all three major mobile platforms: Android, iOS, and Window Phone.
