Graphics card manufacturer Nvidia has released an exclusive gameplay footage of 'Doom' in 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second while running on the company's Vulkan applications programming interface (API).

Vulkan is a new generation computer and graphics API that is expected to provide high-efficiency and cross-platform access to modern graphics processors, which are used on a wide array of devices. What this means is that video games running on the new Vulkan API would be able to run across several devices and even support cross-platform integration. In a sense, Vulkan acts as a sort of link for the graphics card and the game engine to efficiently communicate with each other.

Upon the release of the exclusive 'Doom' gameplay footage, tech analysts were quick to praise the immense power of Vulkan, as well as the rich graphical detail provided by the game's developer id Software.

In a statement, id Software executive producer Marty Stratton said, "We were thrilled with the response to the videos that some in the audience captured and posted, but we know you'd like to see high-res, full-screen gameplay."

The six-minute video was posted on YouTube and as of this writing has already amassed more than 372,000 views with more than 4,000 users clicking the Like button. The computer used to record the footage has a Nvidia GeFore GTX Titan X video card that uses the Vulkan API. It is the first ever uncompressed direct feed footage taken directly from a GeForce GTX-powered and Vulkan-accelerated version of 'Doom.' The footage was taken at full speed with a 120-degree field of view.

Earlier this year, Nvidia confirmed that its graphics processing units will support the new Vulkan API, and the latest 'Doom' footage is the evidence of the company's ongoing quest.
