"DOTA 2" has abruptly ended its tree-cutting challenge after receiving loads of complaints from gamers claiming that the challenge is almost impossible to complete.
As part of the "DOTA 2" The International Challenge, Valve introduced a new community challenge which requires players to collectively cut down trees to win pachinko balls which can be used to acquire Battle Pass experience, according to VG24/7.

The tree-cutting challenge was supposed to be the first out of the five challenges that Valve plans to introduce in this year's run of The International. The community challenge requires "DOTA 2" players to cut down 20 billion trees. As a result of the challenge, statistics show that the Timbersaw pick rate went up by to staggering 11.59 percent from 5.99 percent in just a span of one week.
Although the tree-cutting challenge does not require the community to achieve the feat in a specific number of games or days, players believe that at the current rate, it is not even close to achievable. In a patch released after the 2016 compendium was revealed, Valve introduced a new mini-game on the home screen which players can play while waiting in the queue. The mini-game allows gamers to remove trees from a small orchard by simply clicking on them. These special trees are worth 10 points to the final count.
"DOTA 2" players were very keen to achieve the almost impossible task that they began to write scripts to automatically chop trees whenever available. Since this is considered an act of cheating the game, Valve killed these scripts by simply limiting the maximum number of tress that a player can cut in one instance, according to PC Games.
Weeks after the community challenge was introduced, Valve must have realized that the feat is impossible to achieve and the company decided to add an ultra-rare Golden Tree to the mini-game which is worth 20,000 points. In just a span of 12 hours after this was introduced, the challenge was completed.
