Earlier this year, Microsoft revealed that gamers will soon be able to play next-gen games on Windows 10 computers. The tech giant has now announced a new initiative known as Play Anywhere, a feature that allows gamers to play a game on both Windows and Xbox platforms even if you own either copy of the game.

The new Play Anywhere initiative, announced at E3, will also allow gamers to continue their progress across both platforms. It also supports cross platform play, which means that players from the PC platform can play along or compete with their friends who are playing on the console platform. Moreover, game progress like achievements as well as downloadable content and Gamerscore have also been unified in the new Play Anywhere feature.
However, for games to support the new Play Anywhere feature, they must be developed using Microsoft's Universal Windows Platform tools. This is to make sure that the game can run on both Xbox and Windows 10 platforms.
Microsoft also announced that a lot of major titles are coming with integrated support for Play Anywhere, including the highly anticipated Gears of War 4 and Dead Rising 4.
The complete list of confirmed games that support Play Anywhere are as follows: Ark: Survival Evolved, Crackdown 3, Cuphead, Forza Horizon 3, Halo Wars 2, Killer Instinct: Season 3, Phantom Dust, ReCore, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, and We Happy Few.
Microsoft added that physical discs will not support Play Anywhere and gamers will need to purchase a digital copy of a certain game for it to work across platforms.
According to CNet, Microsoft's initiative to bring some Xbox games to the Windows 10 PC platform has not turned out as well as expected as the PC versions of games like Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Quantum Break were all peppered with bugs.
