The news comes as the show's season four finale was aired on Thursday night. The final hour included a major cliffhanger to give fans something to look forward to in the final stretch.
Orphan Black co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson said in a statement that they are excited to give viewers an "epic" ending to the story of Sarah and her clones.
"The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show," they said. "We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC America and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high."
Series star Tatiana Maslany, who earned an Emmy nomination last year for portraying multiple clones, has recently talked about what made it possible to bring this wide array of characters to life.
"The hair and makeup team are incredibly creatively collaborative with me. And we've created these characters together, you know, along with the writers and showrunners, but also I have a dialect coach who helps me get into the voices," Maslany told ABC.
Maslany, 30, revealed that she has a stunt double for the show. Her name is Kathryn Alexandre, who according to the actress, also gets to play the clones opposite her in every Orphan Black sequence.
"She's an amazing actor and does the most selfless, generous job on the planet, because she's never seen," Maslany said.
