Taiwanese Premier Lin Chuan expressed his thoughts on the entertainment industry, saying that actors should be allowed to act in films without being affected by so-called "political factors," according to Focus Taiwan.

Recently, there has been a controversy after Taiwanese actor Leon Dai was allegedly removed from the cast lineup of an upcoming Chinese movie because of his political stand. The actor was supposed to appear as the lead in "No Other Love," but was reportedly removed from the production after giving a vague response to questions regarding his stance on the issues between Taiwan and China.

In lieu to this, Premier Lin said that actors should be judged by their performance in film and television, and not by their political stance, according to Taipei Times. The Premier added that he hoped that the incident involving Dai would not become a "regular occurrence."

On the other hand, in response to the issue, Dai posted a message on his Weibo page, stating that he had nothing to do with political matters between China and Taiwan as he has "never joined any political parties." He also added that he never supported Taiwan independence.

The actor further stated that he understands the circumstances leading to his replacement and even apologized to the film's production crew and investors.

Premier Lin's comments on the issue came after Japanese-American actress Kiko Mizuhara, who is also a cast member of "No Other Love," released a public apology on Weibo after she was accused of being "anti-China" by netizens, AllKpop reported.

Mizuhara apologized to Chinese citizens for 'liking' a photo on Instagram, which shows Tiananmen Square and a person pointing his middle finger towards it. She further clarified other issues and stated that she did not intend to offend anyone.
