Xiaomi's Mi Notebook Air is now available for pre-order in China.

The 12.5-inch notebook with Intel Core m3 is available for 3,499 CNY ($528) and will be released officially on August 9. The 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air with Core i5 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU, on the other hand, costs 4,999 CNY ($753). While it is currently available for pre-order, the exact release date of the device is still unknown. The two versions of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air are set to be released in China only. It is still unclear whether Xiaomi will make it available globally.

The Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air is said to be a more affordable Windows OS version of the Apple MacBook Air. According to GSM Arena, the Mi Notebook Air comes in gold and silver color. It sports a Full HD screen, Intel Core i5 CPU clocked at 2.7 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal storage and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX dedicated GPU with 1GB GDDR5 RAM.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun does not believe that Xiaomi is similar to Apple. However, the Mi Notebook Air is a glaring challenger to the Cupertino company's MacBook Air. The Apple MacBook Air features a 12-inch display with 2304 x 1440 pixels resolution, 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core m3 processor or 1.2 GHz dual-core Intel Core m5 processor. It comes with 8 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB, Intel HD Graphics 515 and a USB 3.1 Gen 1.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is currently taking registrations for people who wish to participate in the beta-testing of its VR gear. Users who want to test the Xiaomi VR are required pay 1 CNY ($0.15) before the selection begin. A slot is not guaranteed for all registrants. The beta registration will be open until 12:00 a.m. on August 6.
