(Photo : YouTube Screenshot) Chinese smartphone giant Vivo has ended its contract with Song Joong Ki due to "unavoidable circumstances."
Descendants of the Sun actor Song Joong Ki will no longer be Vivo's X7 smartphones' ambassador after the company reportedly revoked its contract with him.
The telecom giant reportedly dropped the Korean Hallyu star because of "unavoidable circumstances," which Soompi reported was attributed to China's retaliations against the United States and South Korea deploying the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD). THAAD is a ballistic missile system of the United States that is allegedly being deployed to strengthen South Korea's defense against North Korea. However, China has voiced concerns that the move could compromise its security.

Although the company has pulled out all its promotional materials starring the 31-year-old Song, IBTimes reported that the payment agreement between both parties remains. Since the breach of contract was not Song Joong Ki's fault, Vivo will bear all the financial and marketing loss.
Song Joong Ki is still entitled to receive his full payment as stipulated by the contract, which is allegedly worth 22.8 million yuan ($3.4 million), from Vivo.
In related news, Blossom Entertainment has clarified rumors that Song Joong Ki has been affected by the deployment of the THAAD the South Korea. The talent agency said that the actor has not taken up any Chinese drama and is focusing on shooting his upcoming film Battleship Island.
"It is true that Song Joong Ki is receiving a variety of casting offers for dramas and films in China," a representative from the agency told Korea's TV Daily. "However, we have not discussed his appearance in any project yet. The only project he has confirmed his casting for following 'Descendants of the Sun' is the film 'Battleship Island.'"
