A handful of leaks hints that Chinese smartphone manufacturer Elephone is working on a new handset dubbed as R9. Recently, Elephone provided some tidbits about the R9, including that it would sport a Classic Sapphire look.

At first, the tech community was wondering what Elephone was referring to when it said Classic Sapphire. However, a poster recently released by the company finally confirmed what it is. Classic Sapphire means that the Elephone R9 would sport a custom "Sapphire" blue aesthetic instead of sapphire glass.

Aside from the sapphire-inspired aesthetics, the Elephone R9 would also sport a bezel-less design, something that is becoming a trend nowadays especially in the premium smartphone market.

The Elephone R9 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution. The display, as previously mentioned, would sport a bezel-less design. Powering the smartphone is the MediaTek Helio X20 chipset with a deca-core processor, according to Gizmo China. It would have 3GB of memory and 32GB of internal storage space.

The Elephone R9 is expected to have a 16-megapixel rear facing main camera and an 8-megapixel front facing selfie shooter. The R9 is also likely to sport a fingerprint scanner which is integrated into the Home button located on the lower front panel. The R9 is expected to run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow mobile operating system.

According to Giz China, the Elephone R9  would hit the market in September.
