The World Bank 2015 "Ease of Doing Business" report ranked China's Hong Kong third among 189 countries. The countries are ranked according to six indicators; starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, registering property, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, and resolving insolvency.

Hong Kong has rejected a Beijing-proposed bill allowing Hong Kong residents to vote for their leaders but with China’s approval. During the Thursday vote, 28 Hong Kong lawmakers rejected the proposal, while eight voted in the bill’s favor. There are a total of 70 lawmakers in Hong Kong.
