Hwang Pyong So, the senior official who was one of the three leaders of North Korea who flew to South Korea for the closing of the Asian Games, has now risen to two of the most important roles in the government amid speculation on Dictator Kim Jong Un's hiatus.

Kim Jong Un's disappearance from public view became officially worrisome to some observers Friday when he failed to attend the ruling Workers Party celebration of North Korea's 69th year as nation. Kim hadn't missed one of those since 2011 shortly before coming to power as Dear Leader of the most isolated nation on Earth.

Some light may be shed Friday on the whereabouts of now-reclusive North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. It's the workers celebration of North Korea's 69th year as nation. Leadership traditionally shows up at the official acknowledgment of the day. Sometimes, in off-years, the Dear Leader has been absent, so it would be even more glaring should a leader miss the 70th anniversary than this one.
