Chinese smartphone maker Gionee officially launched its latest device - the Gionee Steel 2 smartphone - in China for the price of CNY 1,299 (approximately $191 / Rs. 13,000).

The Gionee Steel 2 smartphone is now available for pre-order in the country via the company's official online store. So far, there is no official word regarding whether the device will be available in the international market.

As for the specifications, the new Gionee Steel 2 smartphone features a 5-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) IPS display screen with a pixel density of 293 ppi. Under the hood, the handheld device is powered by a quad-core MediaTek (MT6737) processor coupled with 3GB of RAM onboard. The phone comes in two built-in storage options - 16GB and 32GB ROM. Both these models are expandable up to a massive 128GB via a dedicated microSD card slot.

The Gionee Steel 2 sports an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash support and a 5-megapixel front camera. It runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system out of the box, coupled with the company's latest customized Amigo 3.5 user interface laid on top. Powering the handset is a large 4,000mAh non-removable capacity battery.

Other features the device offers include home button-embedded fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, dual Micro-SIM cards, 3G, 4G with VoLTE connectivity, and GPS. The handset measures a body dimension of 144.3 x 70.5 x 8.6 mm and weighs around 160 grams. The Gionee Steel 2 smartphone is available in Jazz Gold and Gold Black color options.

Meanwhile, the company has recently launched its premium Gionee M2017 smartphone in China at CNY 6,999 (roughly $1,005 / Rs. 68,400). The highlight of this phone is the huge 7,000mAh battery as the smartphone packs two 3,500mAh batteries inside, which also supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
