People who are already using the Android L Developer Preview on their Nexus 7 (2013) or Nexus 5 may want to download the updated factory images of the software.

In June 2014, Android developers and users got the first look of the upcoming Android version at the Google I/O Event. This is the first update in more than three years, marking a big shift in new Android version releases.

Google launched two kinds of software that a lot of Android fans are going to welcome. It first released new Android L Developer Preview images which are build LPV81C from build LPV79, released late in June. As usual, the images are available only for the Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 5.

The changes in the new images may not be much because the build numbers are so close to each other. The company notes that the developers should download the new images instead of the images found on the main Android Developers page because the LPV81C images have the necessary Google Fit support which also got its first Preview SDK. It seems like the developers have no choice but to download the images and look for the changes.

This is the first time Google allowed developers and users to beta test an Android version before it is released to the public. In July, Google said there will be no update or beta 2 launches that would come for Android L but on the contrary, it made a new build available now.

The Google Fit Preview SDK has three API sets which developers need to start building apps and take advantage of it. These include a recording API to that gathers a cloud-synced fitness data background, the Sensors API for a high-level sensor access from wearables and devices and a History API which allows apps to insert, delete and read data.
