Manchester United is mentioned in another huge football transfer rumor as the team is said to be eyeing FC Barcelona striker Luis Suárez as one of their top transfer targets for next summer.

United has been linked to speculations of preparing separate offers for La Liga superstars Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Neymar at the end of the season and Suárez is allegedly the latest big-name footballer included in Louis van Gaal's list of dream signings.

The 28-year-old Uruguay international had been outstanding up front so far with the Camp Nou squad, scoring 13 goals in 13 appearances for Barça this season after netting 16 goals in 27 games in 2014-2015.

Metro noted that a move for Suárez "would be particularly controversial" for the Red Devils as the Uruguayan is a former player of Liverpool FC, which is considered as perhaps United's "main rivals" in England.

Only a "few players" were said to have represented both United and Liverpool in their careers as the report continued that "fans on Merseyside would feel aggrieved after defending the player (Suárez) through thick and thin amidst various controversies that marred his time in England" only to end up playing for their arch-rivals in Manchester.

The Liverpool Echo also confirmed United's interest in Suárez and the potential reaction it could cause in England if the move does push through.

Suárez played four seasons with the Reds, scoring an impressive 44 goals in 64 appearances in all competitions for the Anfield residents. Going to United would definitely boost the attacking options of van Gaal's side as his newly-acquired forwards Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial have yet to live up to expectations.

Meanwhile, the 64-year-old coach is also rumored to be keen on raiding a fellow Premier League club, Everton FC, of its top two players when the winter transfer window opens next month.

The Red Devils are reportedly preparing a £100 million double bid for striker Romelu Lukaku and defender John Stones in January as part of van Gaal's plan to bring the English title back to Old Trafford.
