Guandong Tigers avenged their last season's semifinal loss by defeating the defending champion Beijing Ducks 117-87 at home in round 26 of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League on Sunday.

According to an Asia-Basket, the Guandong Tigers controlled mostly the ballgame. The team dominated down low in the shaded area and ruled the boards by outrebounding the Beijing Duck 40-27.

The Tigers also had a shooting spree from beyond the arc area, connecting 14 treys on a high 60.9 shooting percentage. They demonstrated good ball movement and unselfish offensive game by registering 25 assists.

Nigerian-American power forward Ike Diogu had a double-double performance of 32 points and 16 rebounds, while Chinese hotshot and former NBA player Yi Jianliang and Chinese forward Zhou Peng each contributed 30 points to Guangdong. The home team's defense was effective from the start to the end.

Zhou Peng and Diogu's three-pointers enlarged the team's advantage in the third quarter when Beijing had narrowed the gap to only six points.

According to China.org, Guangdong's win over the league's defending champion is the first time in the season. Beijing ever edged Guangdong in their season's first meeting, and eliminated their old rival in the semifinals of last season.

Former NBA player American Randolph Morris paced Beijing with 30 points, but Beijing failed to catch up with several 3-pointers missed at the start of the fourth quarter. The Ducks dropped to the seventh place in league standings while the Tigers moved-up to fifth place.

Meanwhile, the league leader Xinjiang Flying Tigers was outlasted by current second-ranked Sichuan Blue Whales 112-106.  Former NBA and Iranian veteran player Hamed Haddadi had a very impressive basketball game, posting a remarkable double-double performance of 35 points and 15 rebounds with 5 assists and 4 shot blocks, leading the charge for Sichuan to register their eight successive victory since December 18 last year. American Mike Harris contributed 29 points and 8 rebounds for the Blue Whales. With the loss, the Xinjiang now has a 22-4 record while Sichuan improved to 21-5.
