The Chinese tandem, who came in to the tournament as the 15th seeds, succeeded in winning the first set of the match and seemed to have a run-away victory, but the Czech duo rallied hard to claim the second set of the match.

In the third and final set, the pair of Hlavackova and Hradecka never looked back and ran away with the match, leaving the Chinese pair with a single game point only. The winning tandem took the set in just over half an hour.

Sina reported that the winning Czech tandem will be facing the winner of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza versus Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova. The Swiss Hingis and the Indian Mirza are the current doubles world No. 1.

Other Chinese tennis players who were able to qualify and compete to the first of the four grand slam events of the year have also fallen short and bowed out of the competition.

Wang Qiang had a very impressive opening round start at the Australian Open, beating the No. 26 Sloane Stephens of the United States in a very dominating win 6-3, 6-3 on Monday. However, Wang failed to duplicate her winning performance to advance to the third round of the tournament after her loss to the German Anna-Lena Friedsam.

The remarkable winning streak of the Chinese qualifier Shuai Zhang also had come to an end. After her stunning upset victories against higher ranked tennis players, the amazing Zhang yielded to Johanna Konta, 6-4, 6-1, in their quarterfinals match on Wednesday.
