Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has announced it is joining forces with China UnionPay (CUP) to launch a new mobile payment service in China, called "Huawei Pay", by sometime next month.

The new mobile payment system, which uses near-field communications technology, is expected to enable China UnionPay card owners to make payments using their own Huawei devices. The new partnership comes after the recent launch of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay in mainland China.

Since last month, Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics have begun testing their new mobile payment technologies in the country. According to Apple Vice President Greg Joswiak, the launch of the company's mobile payment system in China was "three times bigger" than in the U.S., Recode reported.

Joswiak said Chinese users were able to add around 3 million payment cards to Apple Pay within three days after the initial launch of the service in February. In contrast, users in the U.S. added only 1 million payment cards to the service during its launch back in 2014.

Like both Apple and Samsung, Huawei's collaboration with China UnionPay is aimed at reaching the majority of Chinese users, Android Headlines reported. Due to the company's success and popularity in the local market, it is possible that Huawei Pay will be more successful than the likes of Alipay and Baidu Wallet.

As of this time, there's no word on the exact date of the availability of Huawei's payment service in China, however, the company said it plans to unveil more information on the service on Apr. 6.
