Chinese smartphone maker Gionee Mobile has announced the launch of its latest premium Android-based flip smartphone called the Gionee W909. The Gionee W909 comes with a price tag of about US$615, and is available in black or Rose gold colors.
Like Samsung's latest SM-W2016 flip phone that was launched in November 2015, the new device also comes with two identical screens, one outside the flip and the other on the inside. The screens feature 4.2-inches IPS LCDs with 720 x 1,280 pixel resolutions.

The phone runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop version operating system along with the Amigo UI on top. It's unclear whether the device will receive an update to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow or not. The handset has a 16 megapixel primary camera and a 5 megapixel selfie snapper. It measures 124.1 x 62.8 x 16.5mm in dimensions and weighs about 207.7 grams, which is around 3.7 grams heavier than the Samsung SM-W2016.
Under the hood, the Gionee W909 flip phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor, accompanied by 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal memory storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card), and a 2,530 mAh battery. Other specs include a fingerprint sensor positioned below the main camera unit, support for USB Type-C port connector, GPS, A-GPS, FM Radio, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity. As of this time, it is still unclear whether the device will make its way outside of China.
In addition to Samsung and Gionee, South Korean giant LG is also still making flip phones. Last year, the company launched its LG Gentle flip phone in the South Korean market. The same phone was later launched as the "LG Wine Smart" for the global market.
