"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 executive producer Betsy Beers recently talked about Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) future in the show.

In an interview with Variety, the non-writing exec said that she strongly believes the lead character deserves more love in the upcoming episodes.

After her husband Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) death, it has become difficult for Meredith to date and trust men.

In season 12, she tried dating another doctor named Will, but their hook up didn't lead them anywhere.

Towards the end of last season, Meredith hooked up with another doctor from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital - Nathan Riggs - and she undeniably had so much fun with him.

However, the two characters' fate in the upcoming episodes remains to be unknown. But Beers said that anything could happen from here on out.

"That was certainly one of my favorite moments of all of the shows this year, and I can tell you that at the table read, the reaction from the actors was, 'Oh my God!' It was just one of those great moments of total surprise," Beers said in reference to Meredith and Nathan's hook up.

"I think she deserves some love. She spent a lot of time saying, 'I don't need it, I'm fine, my life will go on,' and there was something about that, that felt so pleased and so satisfied. I feel like there's something incredibly delicious about getting to watch this, so fingers crossed this is the tip of an iceberg," she said.

In other news, other than Meredith and Nathan, there are still several different storylines in "Grey's Anatomy" that will be explored in season 13.

For instance, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) just wed.

Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Dr. Warren (Jason George), and April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) just patched things up.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will premiere in the fall.
