"There are some conversations and some correspondence with a couple of Chinese clubs through various agents, but we haven't finalized anything as yet," the chief executive said.
"I'm sure over the course of this week there will be some developments on that front. Michael's got some ambitions and we've known that for several months.
"He did have an agreement with the club that if something did come his way during the course of his remaining contract which ends in May that we wouldn't stand in his way."
Thwaite began his football career at Sydney University in the New South Wales Winter Super League. In 2002, he played for the Marconi stallions, an Australian semi-professional football club that is a member of National Premier Leagues NSW 2. He spent two seasons with the Stallions.
Following his spell with the Stallions, he signed to a Polish professional football club Wisla Krakow on a Bosman transfer from the Romanian football club National Bucharest.
