Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. plans to establish a new research and development (R&D) center in the city of Bangalore (Bengaluru) in India.
The new research and development center will focus on developing platforms and middleware for most of Huawei's products.

The R&D center also intends to develop software for networking and enterprise solutions.
"The Chinese ambassador was telling me that in a couple of weeks, Huawei is going to inaugurate its largest development centre outside China in Bengaluru." said Jairam Ramesh, former union minister.
"A lot of development work that would be done in Bengaluru will be for the American market. It will not be for the Indian market. It will not be necessarily for the Chinese market, either,"
The new center is expected to be ready in two weeks. It will have over a million square feet of space and will house around 4,000 engineers.
Reports claim the Chinese giant will likely compete against U.S.-based networking company Cisco Systems, Inc.
Cisco recently established its "Cisco Smart City" in Bangalore. It plans to collaborate locally with the government of Karnataka along with the Department of Information Technology and Science and biotechnology.
Cisco's new smart city, which covers over 2.6 million square feet of space, aims to showcase new technologies for the "Internet of Things".
