NBA Trade Rumors: Spurs, Mavs, Sixers Interested to Get Suns' Brandon Knight
Cristian Andal | | Oct 08, 2016 07:22 AM EDT |
The San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia 76ers are all rumored to be interested in trading for point guard Brandon Knight as the Phoenix Suns may opt to balance out their guard-heavy roster. Phoenix has three potential All-Star backcourt men at the moment with Knight, Eric Bledsoe, and Devin Booker. These three guards are said to be capable of becoming starters in other teams and so the Suns are facing a dilemma on how to give each one enough playing time to showcase their skills and continually develop. Booker, a 19-year-old sophomore, is reportedly being groomed as the future face of the franchise. Head coach Earl Watson has even announced that last year's 13th overall pick will be the Suns' starting shooting guard in the upcoming season, relegating Knight as the sixth man off the bench. Knight is said to be fine with the deal and even praised his head coach for being straightforward about his "new" role with the squad. However, rumors have begun to emerge that sooner or later Knight will seek starter-minutes and may demand to be traded to another team. Sportsrageous noted that the Suns are also likely to deal Knight eventually since they will not want to pay $14 million a year just for a backup point guard. The key would be Knight's performance to start the new season. If he plays well, then a trade is more likely to happen since other teams will perceive him as a starter material. Meanwhile, if he struggles, then he may be left miserable on Phoenix's second unit for years to come. In the case of the first scenario, Inquisitr reported that Knight is not short on suitors as the Spurs, Mavericks, and Sixers are all rumored to be interested in acquiring him from the Suns. The report also mentioned that the Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Sacramento Kings could also pursue him if he is placed on Phoenix's trading block. Of all the teams mentioned, the Suns could reportedly benefit the most in a deal with the Sixers since they have the most assets that are appropriate for the youth revolution happening in Phoenix. Philly is rumored to be searching for an appropriate deal to offload either Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor as they are frontcourt-heavy right now. Either of the two young centers will definitely give the Suns a huge boost and could also form a one-two punch with Booker in the future.
